Oakland Voices emerged from a partnership between the Oakland Tribune and the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education in 2010. Oakland residents are regularly invited to apply to join the Oakland Voices community journalism academy.
Selected applicants may join the Community Journalism Academy, a class of correspondents for a 6 to 9-month period that may span across two calendar years, or other workshops and events.
The Academy is paused for 2025.
