Oakland Voices Alumni Update: Iris M. Crawford starts internship at InvestigateWest

Oakland Voices Alumna Iris M. Crawford joins Seattle-based news organization InvestigateWest as an intern this week. InvestigateWest is a nonprofit focusing on watchdog journalism, and reporting on issues around public health, the environment, and government accountability,

Crawford will be reporting on the “Decarbonizing Cascadia” project, focusing on equity and activism. Iris will explore on equity flashpoints and positive solutions inherent in the decarbonizing debate. The project will bring issues to life through profiles on communities directed impacted, or negatively affected, by renewable energy and electrification developments, and activists who are pressing for change.

“This will be my first time doing investigative journalism, so I am excited to learn and build community in the process,” Crawford said.
