On Sunday, Feb. 24, thousands gathered in downtown Oakland for the third annual Black Joy Parade.

Young and older Black folks alike shared smiles beneath the Oakland sunshine, as floats of dancers, local officials and organizations paraded up Broadway and celebrated black joy. An Oakland Fire Engine could even be heard playing the Hyphy movement anthem, “Tell me When to Go.”
