Oakland Voices Extends Application Deadline to Oct. 1

Oakland Voices, a community journalism project serving East Oakland, is accepting applications for its 2017-2018 program. The application deadline has been extended to Sunday, Oct. 1.

The program is looking for East Oakland residents interested in reporting, writing and taking photos about their communities. The nine-month program puts the power of storytelling in the hands of people who live in the community. Participants will be paid a $1,000 stipend for completing the program.

The program is designed to fit into busy working and personal schedules. Participants will be trained by professional journalists and educators through a curriculum devised by the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education.

Participants’ stories are published on the Oakland Voices website oaklandvoicesclone.mystagingwebsite.com and distributed to other media outlets.
