East Oakland: What’s really news?
Our community media project is looking for residents to report on their neighborhoods, in their own voices. OV trains community correspondents to use digital media tools to tell stories about the issues and people that are shaping East Oakland.
Everything you need to be an Oakland Voices reporter lives on smart phones. We’ll use them for blogging, texting, shooting photos and video, Tweeting, writing and Facebook updating.
We need you to make Oakland Voices a place where the real stories about our town – the challenges and the triumphs – get told by the folks who live it everyday. We’ll give you the journalism skills, the media tools, and the digital space to get your stories out there.
Plus, a little cash.
Soon, we’ll post application instructions here, so stay tuned.
Remember: we’re not looking for media pros; we’ll handle all of the training. Just be 18 or older (seniors are encouraged to apply), and an East Oakland resident.
