This chart, prepared by Sam Wang of Princeton, shows the reduction in people shot as targets during the federal assault weapons ban. The spike in 1999 is due to the Columbine shooting. Note the dramatic upward trend in 2010. Last year, 2012, is not part of the graphed data.
