Open Disclosure app tracks the campaign money

Oakland voters have a better way to understand who is contributing to 2016 candidate races and ballot measures. The updated version of Open went live in mid-October, and now there is a mobile version to help more voters “follow the money” this election.

OpenOakland partnered with the Public Ethics Commission two years ago to develop the original web app for the mayor’s race. Now it covers all the Oakland races and all Oakland ballot measures.

OpenDisclosure processes and analyzes complex contribution information from the California Secretary of State and updates it as new income and expense reports are filed. It also tracks independent expenditure committees that spend money to support or defeat candidates or measures. The app also maps where contributions come from within the Bay Area.

The web site is Open Disclosure
