Oakland Voices, a community journalism project serving East Oakland, is accepting applications for its 2017-2018 program.
The program is looking for East Oakland residents interested in reporting, writing and taking photos about their communities. The nine-month program puts the power of storytelling in the hands of people who live in the community. Participants will be paid a $1,000 stipend for completing the program.
The program is designed to fit into busy working and personal schedules. Participants will be trained by professional journalists and educators through a curriculum devised by the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education.
Participants’ stories are published on the Oakland Voices website oaklandvoices.us and distributed to other media outlets.
